The best CV format for a part-time job depends on your reasons for seeking employment and your work history. We typically recommend the reverse chronological order approach.

The reverse chronological CV format works well if you are continuing in the same field with a steady employment history. It showcases where you are now and how far you’ve come since you entered the job market.

However, if you are trying to enter a new field of employment, you may prefer to use the skills-based CV format. This option allows you to highlight your skills over your work experience.

Include your contact information

Next up, you need to include your contact information so that the hiring manager can get in touch with you. That’s where the CV header comes into play. Here’s what it should include: 

  • Full name & title. Your first name, surname, and the title of the job.
  • Professional email address. A simple email address that is suitable for work.
  • Phone number. Your mobile number (or home number) where you can be reached.
  • Location. You only need to include your city and country. Don’t add your whole address.
  • LinkedIn. If you have a LinkedIn profile, you may want to include a link to it.

Don’t include:

  • Date of birth: Letting the hiring manager know how old you are can lead to age discrimination.

Make use of a summary

The summary section of your part-time job CV could make all the difference, especially if you are a career changer or just starting out. It’s your opportunity to explain how your experience will add value to your desired position.

These three to four lines describe your work style, highlight your top career wins, and generally answer the question: ‘Why are you the best person for the job?’ Be specific about the value you bring.

You can include action verbs in your CV summary to bring it to life. For example, you might use delivered, managed, excelled, and surpassed in this statement. 

You don’t want to repeat the same information that you have outlined in the rest of your CV. Give the reader something new to sink their teeth into. For example, you might write the following: “Determined and hard-working admin assistant with 5+ years of experience in the corporate world. Experienced in delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.”

How to write a part-time job CV with no experience 

If you are new to the working world, you may worry about how you can prove your worth. 

However, it’s important to keep in mind that everyone has to start somewhere. You are no different. When you are writing a no-experience CV, there are some tips you can use: 

  • Highlight your hobbies and interests. Talk about how you spend your free time and the skills that you have learned through this process. For example, you might state that you are part of a football team and are, therefore, a great team player.
  • Detail any transferable skills you may have. Consider the competencies you already have and draw attention to them on your part-time job CV.
