A job at Amazon means being part of an organisation that is filled with opportunities and diverse projects. The company also offers many benefits to their employees, such as competitive pay and healthcare solutions as well as career growth and development opportunities.

As a result, securing a role at Amazon can be pretty competitive, so it’s important to have a CV that will help you stand out and get a foot in the door.

CV guide for an Amazon CV

Here at Resume.io, we have all the resources you need, including guides and CV examples that cover over 150 professions. Another great tool is our CV builder, which makes creating a top-tier Amazon CV a breeze.

This CV guide and corresponding Amazon CV example will cover the following:

  • How to write an Amazon CV
  • Choosing the right format for an Amazon CV
  • How to add your contact information
  • Using summaries
  • Adding your experience
  • Listing education and relevant certifications
  • Picking the right CV design/layout

How to write an Amazon CV

Before you dive in and start writing your Amazon CV, allocate some time to focus on the general format you intend to use. This will make it so much easier to write your CV and — as a result — ensure your CV contains all the necessary elements to be successful. These include:

When you’re applying for a job with Amazon, it’s important to show that you have the specific skills and experience required to thrive in the job opening and are invested in the company. You'll also want to display your customer-centric outlook, strong work ethic, and team-focused approach. Amazon recruiters have a saying, “Market yourself in a humble and confident way.” So, it’s all about showcasing your skills, experience, and achievements, but doing this succinctly and straightforwardly.

Here are some top tips to bear in mind when creating your Amazon CV:

  • Provide examples and results. Rather than listing day-to-day tasks, provide specific details of your skills and achievements. What systems and processes have you created? How have you improved efficiency levels? What cost savings have you achieved?
  • Consider the person you’re writing the CV for. Who will be reading it and why would they want to take you forward? Perform some background research on the role and team so that you know your audience and what they consider to be an ideal candidate
  • Select a simple and professional CV layout. Avoid jazzy designs, bright colours, and clumsy layouts as these can be both confusing and distracting.
  • Use keywords to get past ATS scanners. Take your time to ensure your CV conveys the right message to both humans and applicant tracking systems (ATS).
Expert tip

Optimise your CV for ATS

Amazon receives thousands of CVs every month, so it's no surprise that they use an applicant tracking system (ATS) to screen these high-volume applications. ATS software scans CVs for specific keywords from the job description, and weeds out those that don’t match. Having the right keywords on your Amazon CV is therefore vital.

The keywords you include on your CV will depend on the Amazon job you’re pursuing. For example, a job posting for a software engineer may include:

  • “3+ years of full software development life cycle”
  • “Programming in Java”
  • “System architecture and design”
  • “Strong communication skills”

Integrating these keywords into your professional summary could look like this:

“Talented software engineer, with 3+ years experience of full software development life cycle across green field projects. Skilled in system architecture and design, with expert knowledge of programming in Java. Combines strong communication skills, with a collaborative approach to deliver projects on time, on budget, and to exacting specifications.”

Choosing the right CV format for an Amazon CV

Selecting a CV format is a judgement call that depends on your level of experience and the type of role you are targeting at Amazon.

One of the most popular CV formats is reverse chronological due to its straightforward and easy-to-read structure. Your employment section is the centrepiece of the CV, starting with your most recent role first, and then working back to earlier roles to show your career trajectory.

However, if you have zero experience, large employment gaps, or are pursuing a career change then the functional (or skills-based) CV offers a better solution. This format shifts the spotlight from work experience to your skills, abilities, and qualifications.

Candidates with significant industry experience or targeting a management role with Amazon may want to consider the combination (hybrid) CV. This format is considered the offspring of reverse chronological and functional formats as it balances skills and work experience equally.

View our numerous CV templates to see these formats in action and choose the best option for your situation. We also have many CV examples you can use for inspiration.

Include your contact information

Your CV header is the first thing an employer will see. Projecting your professionalism here could encourage the recruiter to read on and learn more about you.

Detailing your contact information in a clear and accessible way will also help Amazon recruiters and ATS quickly find or scan this information. Here's what you need to include:

  • Full name & title. Include your first name and last name, followed by the title of the Amazon position you're targeting.
  • Professional email address. Use a professional email address, ideally one that simply uses your first name and last name.
  • Phone number. Add a phone number where you can easily be reached. Double-check that your voicemail greeting is suitable for the recruiter to hear.
  • Location. Simply list your city or general location. Providing your full address is no longer a requirement.
  • LinkedIn. If you have a LinkedIn profile make sure it is updated and include a hyperlink so the recruiter can quickly access your profile.

Don't include:

  • Personal details: Photographs, date of birth, nationality, marital status, and number of children are not required or expected..
  • Social media accounts: Avoid sharing any personal Twitter / X, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook accounts.

Make use of a summary

The professional summary is your elevator pitch and a chance to make a great first impression. Using the job description as your guide, be sure to highlight the key skills and experience that make you the perfect choice for the job opening.

Amazon recruiters receive a lot of CVs, so including the job title at the beginning of your summary is the best way to ensure your CV doesn’t get lost in the ether. Of course, if you already work at Amazon you should mention this too. For example, “Proactive Amazon employee, with 3+ years of experience in operations and logistics.”

A great summary should be short, concise, and impactful. Keep your profile to around 3-4 sentences. Refrain from describing yourself in the first person (i.e. using “I” or your first name) and include a standout achievement, interesting anecdote, or shared value with Amazon to hook the reader. For example, you might include, “Committed to contributing to Amazon’s mission to continually raise the customer experience bar through technology.”

Action verbs are a great tool to make your profile pop so sprinkle these across your Amazon CV. Examples include conceptualised, steered, delivered, optimised, negotiated, and collaborated.

Writing your summary is a lot easier when you have well-written examples to review. Check out our related CV examples:

Outline your work experience: your career story to date

Hiring managers are typically most interested in your work experience and how this relates to the job opening they are trying to fill. Your goal should be to show off your assets quickly and efficiently. When adding your work experience, keep things simple. A brief description of your core responsibilities, followed by bullet points that bring attention to your greatest achievements is the best way to display this information.

Start with your most recent experience first and work back to earlier roles, covering up to 10 years of your work history. Focus on more recent and relevant work experience and align this as much as possible with the job posting and Amazon operations.

You should never write about your experience in paragraphs, always use bullet points to describe the most important aspects of the role. Don’t list every single duty, just the most significant. This will ensure your Amazon CV is more direct and impactful.

Many job seekers simply list responsibilities, for example:

  • “Managed project resources.”
  • “Developed training programmes.”
  • “Consistently met performance targets.”

Amazon recruiters love data! If you have any concrete facts and figures this is the best way to demonstrate your impact in the workplace, but if not you can still achieve this goal by using active language and the right phrasing.

Quantifiable and specific positive outcomes will make your CV more alluring, which is the ultimate goal. Revamping these bullet points can make all the difference:

  • “Led the 25-member team in the effective management of resources.”
  • “Developed training programmes that improved customer satisfaction levels by 25%”
  • “Consistently exceeded the 20% target lead conversion and established new records.”

Include the relevant key skills that make a great Amazon CV

Amazon hiring managers will be searching for job candidates with a specific skill set, and this will vary broadly depending on the role you’re applying for.

Scrutinise the job description for keyword inspiration, in particular any specific skills or experience that are emphasised or repeated. You can then include these skills directly (or adjacent skills that align with the skills you already possess) to focus your CV on the specific role.

Combining hard and soft skills will make your Amazon CV more compelling. Hard skills relate to job-specific training, such as warehousing, supply chain, or retail operations.

Soft skills, also known as people skills, are transferable across diverse roles and industries. Teamwork, adaptability, communication, and leadership, are a few examples of soft skills that employers value and are therefore in demand.

Our CV builder has numerous examples of key skills and proficiency ranges that you can easily adjust. Don’t forget to weave in your unique skills to add that personal touch.

Here's what the skills box looks like in our Amazon CV template.

Key Skills and Proficiencies
  • Operations Management
  • Logistics and Supply Chain
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Process Improvement
  • Leadership and Team Management
  • Problem-solving
  • Communication
  • Adaptability and Learning Agility

The best way to demonstrate your skills is by showcasing them in action. This goes a long way to boosting your credibility, by not only presenting your skill set but backing up the skills being put forward with concrete examples and positive outcomes.

For example, in your professional profile and work experience, highlight your:

  • Communication skills by being able to convey your thoughts in a clear, concise, and informative way that ensures optimal customer satisfaction levels.
  • Project management skills by referencing your role in a successful project related to the Amazon role, including any positive outcomes.
  • Leadership skills by explaining how you train new staff on core duties, company policies, and safety protocols to ensure smooth integration into the team.

Rather than second guessing what an employer is looking for in terms of key skills, refer to the job description. Look out for skills that are emphasised as important or repeated.

Amazon recruiter recommends adding links to your CV

According to an Amazon recruiter, one thing you should include on your CV are links to help recruiters find information easily and quickly. Links to your LinkedIn profile, portfolio, notable projects, and your existing/previous companies are ideal (just make sure they are relevant to the specific Amazon job opening).

Detail your education & relevant certifications

Many positions at Amazon value practical experience, so not every role requires a traditional level of education. However, recruiters will still view your education as an asset and value your commitment to continued professional development.

Simply list your academic achievements, in reverse chronological order. If you have significant work experience or higher education, you can remove your GCSEs and A-Levels.

When crafting your education section consider including the following:

  • List any certifications you’ve completed or are working towards. Warehousing, inventory management, sales, and customer service courses should be detailed, along with any other certifications or licences relevant to your target role.
  • Modules and key projects. Detailing relevant final year modules and key projects underneath your degree will showcase essential job-related skills.
  • Awards. University awards for strong performance or external awards, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, demonstrate your commitment to excellence.

Pick the right CV layout and design for an Amazon CV

The best format to use is a clean and organised CV template, with clear sections to maximise readability for the hiring manager. When you think you only have mere seconds to impress a recruiter (and ATS!) having the essential information in a clear format is vital.

Stick to reverse chronological order for your professional experience section, so your most recent and relevant work experience is more prominent. Your Amazon CV shouldn’t be longer than 2 pages. Keep it concise and to the point.

While formatting is important, it can also be extremely time-consuming. Speed this process up by using our field-tested CV templates to avoid any CV design and formatting issues.
