Include your contact information

What’s the point of a digital marketing campaign if the audience can’t click on a link and immediately be taken to your company’s landing page? The header of your resume acts as the web link in your resume. You don’t want to miss the impulse to contact you.

Present all your contact information in an eye-catching but easy-to-read format. Keep all your details professional. 

  • Full name and title. List your first and last name. Your title should match the one on the job you are applying for.
  • Professional email address. Use a clean format like [email protected]. This is not the place to try to be memorable with a clever email address.
  • Phone number. List a number where you can be readily contacted, with a professional voicemail greeting.
  • Location. Only your city and state are necessary. Don’t list street address or zip code since that personal information could get into the wrong hands. If you’re willing to move, note that here.
  • LinkedIn. If your LinkedIn profile is active, relevant, and shows your business network, include it here.

Make use of a summary

Engaging marketing copy gets right to the point with a summary aimed at capturing the attention of prospects. You want them to remember what you’re selling. Within those first few words or phrases, you’re broadcasting the message that your brand offers something special.

You’re illustrating to the hiring manager that you can boost brand awareness and click-throughs or develop young talent (or whatever it is you know they’re looking for) better than any other candidate. The summary distills your career into its dynamic essence. Who are you as a marketer? As a director? What is your style and vision? How do you approach your work? A repetition of the accomplishments within your employment history section is a waste of space and doesn’t illustrate your overarching value. 

This sentence tells the hiring manager how you perceive yourself and your career and illustrates to them your style and value: “Dynamic marketing director with eye toward the next social media trend excels at leading strategic initiatives and fostering innovation in brand development, digital marketing, and market expansion.”

Outline your marketing director work experience: communicate value

Start with where you are now (or where you’ve been most recently) and work your way back through your career, showing a pattern of growth and increased responsibility. If you’ve been at it for more than 10-15 years, there’s no need to include those first few jobs.
